He obtained a Bachelor degree in Biology from the Bielefeld University, Germany (1996) and a Master degree in Biology from the Bielefeld University (1999). He performed doctoral studies (PhD) in Biology/Biochemistry at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (2002) and was Wellcome International Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wellcome Trust Biocentre, University of Dundee, UK (2002-2004) as well as Principal Investigator at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (2004-2010). He did Habilitation and Venia-legendi in Zoology at the University of Hamburg, Germany (2007) which was also accredited as Livre-docência from the University of São Paulo (2013). He was "Jovem Pesquisador em Centros Emergentes" at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo (ICB-USP), Vice-President (in exercise) for International Affairs, ICB-USP (2014-2017 (-2019)) and is currently Associate Professor for Molecular Parasitology at ICB-USP, Coordenator of the Master (MSc) double degree programme between ICB-USP and University of Münster (WWU), Germany and the PhD double degree propramme between ICB-USP and University of Groningen (RUG), Netherlands, Founder of the "BSL3 Cell Culture Facility for Vector and Animal Research" and Head of the Department of Parasitology, ICB-USP. He has experience in molecular parasitology, biochemistry and cell biology and is working on the vitamin B1 and B6 metabolism in Plasmodium falciparum and Staphylococcus aureus MRSA.
