Graduation at Ciências Biológicas Modalidade Médica from Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (1988), master's at Biologia Celular e Molecuar Farmacologia from Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (1994) and doctorate at Pharmacology from Universidade de São Paulo (1998). He is currently full professor at Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho.
