Vera L G Calich graduated in Biological Sciences; PhD in Immunology at the University of São Paulo and Postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. She joined the faculty of University of São Paulo in 1978 and is currently a Professor of Immunology. She has trained 27 predoctoral students and 8 postdoctoral fellows. Their research focus is on the immunopathogenesis of paracoccidioidomycosis, an endemic pulmonary fungal infection of Latin America. Most of her current group is involved in identifying and characterizing the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity that leads to protective or deleterious effects to infected hosts. Member of the editorial board, and reviewer of national and international journals. Organized conferences and lectured at national and international congresses.
