Master's degree in Agronomy (Plant Pathology) at the University of São Paulo (USP, 1991) and PhD in Plant Pathology by the Louisiana State University (LSU, 1996). Worked for seven years at University of Ribeirão Preto (UNAERP, 1997-2004) and has worked for 16 years at the Fund for the Defense of the Citriculture (Fundecitrus, 2004-now). Has gained experience in research, extension, and education. Has led or leads research on (i) the etiology and management of various diseases of sugarcane, in particular of the ?eye spot?, ?ratoon stunting? and ?leaf scald?, and (ii) the etiology and management of diseases of citrus, especially citrus variegated chlorosis and huanglongbing (HLB) caused by vascular bacteria transmitted by insects. Participated of the Xylella fastidiosa Genome Project resulting in the first plant pathogen to have the entire genome sequenced. Has assisted farmers and agents of governments in Brazil and abroad for Fundecitrus or as a consultant of FAO on the control of HLB. Has taught courses on plant-pathogen-insect-environment interactions and disease management practices in undergraduate (UNAERP) and postgraduate (Fundecitrus, UNESP-Jaboticabal, Instituto Biológico) courses. Has guided a total of 12 undergraduate (IC and TCC), 16 MSc and 8 PhD students. At Fundecitrus, idealized and coordinated a professional master course on Management of diseases and pests of citrus (MasterCitros). From 2013 to 2018 worked as an adjunct coordinator of CAPES for the Professional master courses in the area Agronomical Sciences. Several of the carried researches were supported by the state and federal agencies Fapesp and CNPq. As author or co-author has published 52 articles in high-impact-factor journals as Plant Disease, Phytopathology, Plos One, Current Microbiology, Journal of Plant Pathology, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Genome Research and Nature. Until 18 April 2022 his publications had been cited 3090 times and attained h index of 24 and i10 index of 38 (https://scholar.google.com.br/citations?hl=en&user=ltA0C5MAAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate).
