Professor Sposito graduated as MD at the Federal University of Bahia in 1992. In 1993, he made his residency training in Internal Medicine at the General Hospital of the Medicine School of the University of São Paulo (USP). From 1994 to 1995, he made his residency training in Cardiology at the Heart Institute of the Medicine School of the USP. In 1999, he defended his PhD at the University of Sao Paulo and from 2000 to 2002 he did his post-doctorate at the University of Paris VI, Paris, France. In 2008, he was awarded Professor Habilitation in Cardiology at the USP. From 2005 to 2010 he was Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine of the University of Brasília (UnB) and, currently, he is Full Professor in the Department of Cardiology of the UNICAMP, Member of the Executive Committee of the Regional of the Americas of the International Atherosclerosis Society, Visiting Professor of the Universita 'degli Studi di Parma and Senior Associated Investigator of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA. He served as Associate Editor of Atherosclerosis and Journal of Geriatric Cardiology and as Section Editor of the BBA Clinical. His publications include chapters in Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine and Braunwald's Heart Disease and papers in reference journals in internal medicine and cardiology.
