Graduated in Molecular Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2003). Doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of São Paulo (2007). Postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University in the USA. He was Assistant Researcher at the Ludwig Cancer Research Institute (2009-2011) and member of the board of the Brazilian Association of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (AB3C) from 2010 to 2014. He is currently Senior Researcher at the Hospital Sírio-Libanês Teaching and Research Institute Sírio-Libanês and Volunteer Professor at the University of São Paulo (Dept. of Biochemistry). He has experience in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Genomics and Cancer. As lines of research: i) seeks to understand the functional role of retrotransposable elements in the human genome and other mammals; ii) to study the role of post-transcriptional gene regulation in tumor origin and maintenance; iii) to search for new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for aggressive tumors; iv) and to development computational tools and algorithms in the areas of bioinformatics, genomics and transcriptomics. It is common knowledge that malignant tumors present alterations in gene expression with several over or underexpressed genes. Today, we know that many retrocopies are expressed and can regulate the expression of their coding genes or those genes surrounding the site that they are inserted.
