The renin-angiotensin system plays a fundamental role in controlling the homeostasis of bodily fluids, and angiotensin II (Ang II) as its main active hormone. The main effects exerted by ANG II in the control of electrolyte homeostasis, as dipsogenic, natriorexigenic and its neuroendocrine responses are mediated mainly by its AT1 receptor.
