Graduated in Biological Sciences at the Institute of Biosciences - Unesp/Botucatu. Completed part of his master's degree at Oregon State University in the United States and part of his doctorate at the University of Porto in Portugal. Has experience in the field of fish parasitology, with an emphasis on morphological and molecular analysis of myxozoans.
