Adalberto Pessoa Junior has been teaching Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo since 1998. Graduated in Food Engineering from Federal University of Viçosa (1984), Master's degree in Biochemical-Pharmaceutical Technology from University of São Paulo (1991), PhD in Biochemical-Pharmaceutical Technology from University of São Paulo (1995) - with sandwich PhD in Germany (Gesellschaft fur Biotechnologische Forschung - GBF) and Post-Doctorate in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA (in 2000 - Chemical Engineering Department). He obtained the title of "Freie Dozent" in 2001; has been a Full Professor since 2007; current Vice-Head of the Department of Biochemical-Pharmaceutical Technology of FCF/USP until 2023; Vice-Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo, from 2014 to 2018; Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Biochemical-Pharmaceutical Technology (2006 to 2014); Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the Program (2009 to 2014); Chairman of the CPG (Graduate Committee) of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of USP (2013-2014); Editor-in-Chief of the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology, BJM, (2008 to 2014); Associate Editor in the area of Industrial Microbiology of BJM from 2006 to the present; President of the Brazilian Society of Microbiology (2009 to 2013); Vice-President of the Latin American Association of Microbiology (2010-2014); supervisor of Master's and PhD courses in the Graduate Program in Biochemical-Pharmaceutical Technology of FCF/USP (since 1998) and in Biotechnology of Biomedical Sciences Institute, University of São Paulo (since 2000); was Coordinator of the Brazilian Network of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology of INCT_IF from 2009 to 2014; is a Faculty Member of the PhD Program in Chemical-Civil-Environmental Engineering of the Università degli studi di Genova (Italy) since 2006; was a Visiting Professor of the Master in Renewable Energies of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (Mexico) from 2008 to 2012; and Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in Molecular Biology and Applied Biotechnology at the Universidad de La Frontera (Chile) since 2011; Senior Visiting Professor at King's College London, England (year 2020) and is an associate researcher in a project on production of L-asparaginase (anti-leukemic biopharmaceutical) with the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Peru; is coordinator of the Double-PhD Agreement with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, King's College London, since 2017. He works mainly in the following topics: pharmaceutical biotechnology - biotechnological processes, with emphasis on fermentative processes; production, purification and application of biomolecules of pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic interest; and bioprocesses in general. He has 11 patents filed in the biotechnology area; more than 300 articles. GoogleScholar: H Index = 42 and number of citations: 6412. He has also published 5 books in the Biotechnology area (Purification of Biotechnological Products - First and Second Editions - in Portuguese ans Spanish - and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology - in Portuguese and English). He has graduated 22 MSc's, 31 PhD's and supervised 25 post-doctoral fellowships. He was included in the list of the "2 of the scientists more influencers in the world" in 2020.
