Abstract

This study proposes an analysis of the immaterial experience of urban furniture users, considering the complexities of the projective processes in contemporary design. The main objective was generating innovative guidelines for the design of those urban furniture classified as public seats, through the systematization of immaterial values experienced by users during their human-object interaction. This research is structured around a hypothetical-deductive method, with testing of the hypothesis through the collection of sample data in urban parks of three medium-sized cities of São Paulo State (Brazil). The data collected in the field combined the application of two methods of environmental observation, and allowed the comparative analysis of public seats, having as a parameter the quality of the human-object relationship provided by such public artifacts. As a premise, we considered that the immaterial experiences of users are shaped by their own subjective values in contrast with the material characteristics of objects. As a result, the research established innovative projective guidelines that will help the development of future public seats that are able to satisfy the subjective desires of their users. (AU)
