Calcium phosphate-based bioceramics have been extensively studied because of their excellent biocompatibility. Although these materials are commercially produced and applied clinically, there are physico-chemical aspects of their composition and obtention processes to be analyzed. The study of thermal decomposition of calcium phosphate compounds can establish technological parameters for the process of obtaining ceramics based on calcium phosphate. The complexity of the X-ray diffraction patterns obtained for these materials can be treated by the Rietveld method, making it possible to obtain structural and crystallographic data using the total diffraction pattern. The purpose of this project is to analyze the phase transformations of three compounds based on calcium phosphate: hydroxyapatite: Ca10 (PO4) 6 (OH) 2), octacalcium phosphate: Ca8 (HPO4) 2 (PO4) 4.5H2O and imperfect hydroxyapatite : Ca9 (HPO4) (PO4) 5.OH at high temperatures, by XRD. The results obtained in this work will be included in the thematic project approved by FAPESP "Research into the use of ceramic implants for treatment of bone losses in maxilla and mandible".
