Abstract

The crust and upper mantle structure in SE Brazil will be studied by joint inversion of surface-wave dispersion and receiver function. Good quality seismological data have been collected in SE Brazil since 1992 by occupying about 20 sites with broadband high gain stations. The areas to be studied in detail include the Southern part of the São Francisco craton and surrounding fold belt, the NE part of the Ribeira belt, and the central part of the Paraná basin. The data to be inverted are interstation group and phase velocities of surface waves and Ps (Moho P to S conversion) arrival times. Genetic Algorithm inversion techniques will be used to infer the crustal and upper mantle structure in terms of P- and S- wave velocity profiles as well as the density profile. (AU)
