(Re)inventing the future: the process of integration of Brazilian young people in Portugal and the reconstruction of youth identity in migratory context

Abstract

This research, inserted in the field of Sociology of Youth with support of Sociology of Migration, aims to identify, within a numerous and diversified population, how Brazilian immigrants in Portugal, they are young people and, they have between 15 to 25 years old and, they are single; with the aim of to know how the process of integration to a new society occurs and, how the rebuilding of youth identity happens, this identity divided into the original country and the new society. Thus, this work aims to know how these young people, in the process of integration of a new society, organize their currently and future project, the way that they use to establish contact with Portuguese young people, the process of integration and renegotiation of expressivity, attitude, values and, symbols of youthful condition, as well as fragilities, vulnerabilities and, potentialities of their insertion in Portuguese society. To aim these purposes, the methodology used will be constituted by interviews and, focal groups applied in young people from several Portuguese cities. (AU)
