The objectives of this work are to propose and to investigate numerical and experimentally new designs for filled microstructured optical fiber. These new fibers will be designed to present different optical properties than the traditional microstructured fibers The change in the fiber characteristics will happen due to the selective filling of material in one specific hole cladding. This filled hole will work as a second core in the microstructured fibers, modifying its propagation characteristic. As a result, it will be possible to investigate different photonic structures, capable, for example, of guiding, to filter, bend, split, and couple the light. Therefore, it is possible to design devices based on fiber as: optical splitter, sensor, tapers, among other, essential for high-speed data commutation.
