Embryology is a developing area and findings mainly related to studies indomestic carnivores in specific. During the genesis of the protection isperformed by a complex structure and fundamental, called placenta, whichsurrounds and helps in the nutrition of the embryo. Since the composition of theembryo/fetus involves a process of segmentation and differentiation, and thepharyngeal arches are part that origin muscle, bone and cartilage of the headand neck including some important muscles of the face and sources of cellswith high capacity for cellular differentiation in endoderm, mesoderm andectoderm. So this project on the gross and microscopic study of the pharyngealarches at different stages to clarify and substantiate some existing studies. Forthis study we used embryos of carnivores (dogs and cats) in different stages ofdevelopment. The material will be photographed, measured by crown-rump formacroscopic analysis. For microscopic analysis the cast will be fixed inparaformaldehyde 10%, fragmented and embebbed, then cut in microtome. Thesections will be stained with HE techniques, histochemical reaction for PAS,toluidine blue and Masson's Trichrome, and in addition toimmunohistochemistry and analysis with electron microscopy withglutaraldehyde. The results will be analyzed and compared for clarification ofthis process of formation of arches and their derived structures, thus understandthe process of formation of pharyngeal arches and description of potentialsources of totipotent cell different germ layers, particular for this region.
