Use of micro-organisms for biomarker purposes and for pre-concentration of chemical species has been increasing, as their affinity with some substances makes them an important tool for chemical analysis related to environmental control. Presently, yeasts such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, often used in the food industry, have proved to be efficient as pre-concentrating materials for pesticides, Linuron, Thiram and Chlorpyrifosde amongst them. Moreover, analytical systems relying on portable equipments for determination of these species under field conditions have been scarcely reported. In this context, flow injection analysis with spectrophotometric detection can be considered as an alternative, as it presents all the required characteristics for the development of dedicate systems for monitoring relevant parameters related to environmental control. Another interesting aspect is the use of multi-task systems for sampling and filtration without the analyst intervention, leading to improved sampling rate and increased amount of the information gathered from a given area. The system to be proposed should combine the characteristics of ruggedness and versatility, being then suitable for spectrophotometric determinations after pre-concentration of Linuron, Thiram, Chlorpyrifos onto a mini-column of Saccharomyces cerevisiae immobilized on a sepiolite or silica substrate, depending on the working conditions. Accuracy of the proposed system will be assessed against well-established methods such as e.g. high efficiency liquid chromatography. Statistical treatment for simultaneous determinations involving multivariate calibration (e.g. PLS) is another perspective for evaluating the feasibility of monitoring of the three species, under field conditions. Results will be critically evaluated. One aims an alternative for pesticide determination under field conditions using a portable and efficient apparatus.
