Abstract The main purpose of this project is to make a deep study on the fundamentals of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity, which is a genuine gauge theory for gravity, with the translation group as symmetry group. Initially, an Hamiltonian formalation for teleparallel gravity will be pursued, with the objetive of applying the theory of "loop quantum gravity" (LQG) to the study of a possible quantum theory for gravitation. The motivation lies in the affinity of the LQG formalism with gauge theories, which makes of teleparallelism a more appropriate theory than general relativity, to study quantum versions of gravitacional field. We plan also to continue our previous studies about the role played by torsion in the description of the gravitational interaction, as well as on the dynamics of horizons, both of the de Sitter and black hole types.
