This pos-gratuated research project has as proporse the development of a new synthetic approach for the preparation of Monatin, a protein derivative natural sweetener showing a high sweet activity. The synthetic plan is based on the utilisation of ketoesters prepared via a Heck reaction of a chiral Morita-Baylis-Hillman adduct. This research project has also as purpose the synthesis of new ionic liquids to be used as catalyst in a asymmetric version of the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction. (AU)
