Abstract

ATiO3 perovskite (A = Pb, Ca, Sr, and Ba) is one of the most important classes of metal oxides, suitable for various applications due to their physical properties and currently is a potential material for application in the biological area due to its high biocompatibility. The production of new photoluminescent materials is very important for the development of new technologies. The crystalline powder of calcium titanate, CaTiO3 (CT), will be obtained by hydrothermal method with microwave, since this is considered a low-cost alternative method that allows the use of low temperatures. The Eu3+ was chosen since its photoluminescent properties are the best studied among the rare-earth ions. In this work we intend to prepare the CT doped with trivalent Europium, CaTiO3:Eu3+ by hydrothermal method assisted by Microwave (HTMW) and study some of its properties through the X-ray diffraction powder (XRD), Absorption in the infrared, ultra violet and visible region of the spectrum (IR and UV-Vis) and RAMAN spectroscopies. The photoluminescent study will be conducted through the emission and excitation spectra of Eu3+ in the material obtained, as well as by the Eu3+ lifetime determined through the decay curve of the 5D0 - 7F2 transition of this ion. These data will be compared with those obtained for the pure matrix without the presence of Eu3+. The effect of doping this material with three different concentrations of Eu3+ on the properties above cited of the prepared material also will be investigated
