Abstract

All of the executed restorations in a rehabilitating treatment should be hygienized in the mouth, and that implicates in the use of the daily brushing. Restorative materials can suffer mechanical degradation due to the abrasive action of the toothpaste and this action, in long period, can be problematic because it would favor the biofilme accumulation and increase of the liberation of metallic particles associated to the toxicity. The objective of this work is to analyze the effects of the brushing, using different commercial toothpastes, on the titanium cp. Tablet samples will be obtained with 20mm diameter and 3mm thick. Previously to the accomplishment of the brush test the samples will be embedded in PVC rings using autopolymerizing acrylic resin and submitted to metallographic polishing using sandpapers of 180, 320, 400, 600, 1200, 1500 and 2000 granulations, for perfect surface planning. Soon afterwards they will be polished in special cloth for polishing of titanium, using a solution OPS + H2O2 30%. The superficial roughness of the metallic tablets will be obtained. The brushing test will be accomplished in an equipment developed at the Department of Dental Materials and Prosthodontics - Dental School of Ribeirão Preto - USP, with speed of 240 ciclos/min and course of 10mm, resulting in the speed of 80mm/s for the test. After the accomplishment of the test, the samples will be them removed, dried and again it will be obtained the superficial roughness. The number of samples and brush cycles will be determined in the pilot test and the obtained data will be analyzed with appropriate statistical test.
