Relationship between different working memory capacity measures.

Abstract

Memory is a cognitive faculty related to the ability of storing, retaining and retrieving information. There are different kinds of memory, among them, the short and the long term memory. Baddeley and Hitch (1974) proposed the substitution of the concept of short term memory for a more complex system called working memory, responsible for the temporary storage and mental manipulation of information that are useful for reasoning and problem solving. Working memory tasks are powerful and informational tools for the cognitive psychology. The aim of this project is to explore the relationship between different types of working memory capacity tasks on a Brazilian college student sample. Portuguese versions of three different types of working memory capacity tests will be created. The results will be compared with those obtained in similar tests for the North-American population.
