Abstract

Although ovarian cancer is not the most prevalent, is the leading cause of death among gynecological tumors. With statistics even more unfavorable, the malignant epithelial tumors account for approximately ninety percent of ovarian tumors. Each histological subtype is associated with a variety of genetic and molecular events during oncogenesis private. Although a heterogeneous group, in most cases, these tumors are treated similarly, leading to different responses to treatment and prognosis. The advancement of knowledge in the carcinogenesis of ovarian tumors, led to proposal of a new model that considers each histological type and their different genetic risks and molecular changes. Evaluation of genetic alterations can be made indirectly through immunohistochemical methods to identify markers of prognosis and aid in diagnosis. Thus, considering the specific behavior of each tumor, the treatment can be directed, not taking into account only the histologic type and stage as is currently done, which may contribute to the introduction of less aggressive treatments and more effective. Objective: To evaluate the expression of immunohistochemical markers p53, Ki-67, WT1, ² catenin and estrogen and progesterone in different histological types of epithelial borderline and primary invasive ovarian cancer, according to the state and degree of differentiation and its association with disease-free interval and survival. Material and methods: This clinical study is a cross-sectional and follow-up were collected retrospectively. Will be included in the paraffin blocks of 170 women with malignant epithelial tumors and borderline primary ovarian collected from 1993 to 2008 at the Center of Integral Attention to Women's Health at the State University of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. The evaluation of the expression of p53, WT1, ² catenin and estrogen receptors and progesterone will be performed by immunohistochemistry after construction of tissue microarray (TMA). Data analysis: multivariate analysis will be conducted. (AU)
