Skeletal malocclusion in dogs, In most cases, some discomfort can be caused due to contact tooth to tooth or tooth to soft tissues. Nowadays, in Veterinary Medicine, these traumas have been treated palliativelly because there is not any surgical procedure established to be applied in animals so far. The possibility to perform the sagittal split osteotomy was evaluated in cadavers of dogs, simulating a surgical treatment of the skeletal malocclusion, with good results to be realized in vivo. After sagittal osteotomy and repositioning of the mandible, the bone fractures were fixed with titanium mini-plates and screws, with 1.5mm of diameter, offering good stability of fracture. However, the stability of fixation was evaluated by hands, without measurement of the force supported by the fixation by biomechanical studies. So, the aim of this project is to evaluate the resistance of rigid (stable) fixation materials with biomechanical tests, in different application forms, in cadavers of dog, after orthognathic surgery (sagittal split osteotomy) and improve information about the best options to be indicated in vivo.
