STUDY OF METABOLIC PARAMETERS ALTERATIONS IN WOMEN WITH POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME SUBMITTED TO AEROBIC PHYSICAL TRAINING

Abstract

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have high prevalence of obesity. In addition to obesity, this disease is also associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, physical training has been used as adjunctive treatment for several diseases in order to promote beneficial adaptations to the individual, including improvement of the metabolic parameters. Therefore, our objective is to characterize the impairment of the metabolic parameters in women with polycystic ovary according to different levels of obesity. Additionally, the effect of aerobic physical training on polycystic ovary syndrome will also be investigated by focusing on body constitution and metabolic adaptations. Female volunteers aged 18 to 39 years old presenting different percentages of body fat, with or without non-treated polycystic ovary, will be submitted to ergospirometric evaluation, body constitution, and laboratory exams to determining the levels of leptin, adiponectin, and TNF-alfa factor, prior to and after the 24-week aerobic-training protocol.
