This project proposes the development of analytical methodologies for the identification and characterization of new biomarkers associated with cardiometabolic risk. Proteins/metalloproteins presents in rat blood serum samples (control and hypertriglyceridemia) will be separated by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE). It will assess the different levels of expression of the protein. Then, the quantification of metalloproteins using mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS) and the molecular characterization through the use of mass spectrometry by desorption/ionization by matrix assisted laser (MALDI-MS) will be carry out just for those proteins differently expressed. The data obtained will be processed and correlated. Moreover, after the verification of likely changes in protein level as well as changes in the metallome on different events, it could be plausible to identify biomarkers directly related to cardiometabolic risk.
