Abstract

Water with high salt concentrations promote an environmental problem of global magnitude, since its use is restricted for agriculture, for industry and domestic use. Water with these characteristics are naturally in greater quantities in arid and semiarid regions, such as Brazilian semiarid which presents a major problem of salinization of water wells due to geological structure, the irregular rainfall and high evaporation. Besides the occurrence of saline water in arid and semiarid areas similar processes are observed in regions with high agricultural productivity, caused mainly by the intensive use of mineral fertilizers. This undergraduate project aims to establish methodologies for chemical analysis of saline waters in the Laboratory of Isotopic Ecology from the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (USP) to support future demand for samples with high concentrations of salts that are already happening in the region and also to assess the temporal variation of the concentration of selected ions comparing the three cities: Petrolina, PE, Piracicaba and Ubatuba, SP. The analytical parameters to be analyzed are: alkalinity, total phosphorus, hardness, chloride and sulfate. (AU)
