Abstract

Felsic microgranular enclaves have been shown to be abundant in granitic plutons, and their origin and significance to the evolution of granitic magma chambers are an important current petrological issue. Taking advantage of the existence of previous good petrological studies and of excellent expositions in quarries and road cuts, detailed studies will be done, including field descriptions, petrography and major and trace-element geochemical analyses of microgranular enclaves with "granitic" composition from the Itapeti and Salto granites (SP). The comparison with existing data from the host granites will allow to elaborate hypotheses for the origin of the enclaves. The results obtained for the two plutons, which have similar ages, but were generated in different tectonic settings, will contribute to identify the importance of the processes of enclave generation in the granites in this region
