Abstract

One limiting problem in the use of biodegradable films based on natural macromolecules is its susceptibility to the relative humidity considering that the additives and the macromolecules used in the production of the films are usually hydrophilic. The aim of this work is the development and characterization of films produced with gelatin and emulsifiers (soy lecithin or saponin extract of Yucca schidigera) and glycerol as plasticizer and evaluate the compatibility of these materials. The study will be divided into four steps: (1) development of methodology for production of films by casting, (2) elaboration and visual evaluation of the films, (3) characterization of the functional properties of the films and (4) morphological characterization. The films will be evaluated for their mechanical properties, water vapor permeability, water solubility, opacity and morphology using scanning electron microscopy.
