Abstract The spasticity is an important treatable component post-stroke hemiplegic patients, because of that there is this clinical interest in properly assess this commitment. There are several methods to measure the weakness of the hemiplegic patient and its spasticity. There is among them a Modified Ashworth scale (MAS), used to measure the degree of muscle spasticity and the Modified Barthel Index (MBI) which evaluate ten items of function ability of the activities of daily life of the patient. Within this context, it is proposed in this research the use of surface electromyographic (EMG) to evaluate the relationship between the activation of muscles agonists and antagonists of the arm of patients with spasticity. Fifteen hemiplegic patients and fifteen healthy individuals will be submitted to EMG evaluation of muscles, bíceps and triceps brachii, during the active movements of flexion and extension of the elbow and the results will be compared with the assessments MAS and MBI, and the values of range of motion obtained through a movement cinemetric analysis, getting to this qualitative and quantitative data on the degree of spasticity that post-stroke patient presents with intention to foment the physiotherapy. | |
