The synthesis of goniothalamin analogues containing the g-butyrolactone moiety will be carried out and their citotoxic activity will be evaluated against a panel of human cancer cell lines. The asymmetric syntheses of isotetronic acids and the lower homologues of goniothalamin, herein denominated as homogoniothalamins, will be investigated employing organocatalysis, chiral Bronsted acids and diastereoselective Michael addition.
