Boa Vista/Popó: sustainability and local development: socioenvironmental assessment and land use on the Jaguary river watershed in Bragança Paulista/SP

Abstract

The concept of sustainability, which has been widely discussed in recent decades, involves several controversial and different positions, views, and versions have emerged and been consolidated over recent years. Considering this perspective it is essential to mention the increasing research production related to sustainability at the local level. The environmental issue is here is part of the discussion of social learning, quality of life, democratic management, local government, public participation and citizenship and popular culture. In this context this project proposes to conduct an environmental assessment and analysis of the perceptions, values and interests of different social actors about the use of the space and its impacts on the socioenvironmental reality of the neighborhoods: Boa Vista dos Silva, with mainly rural characteristics, and Popo with essentially urban characteristics, inserted into the Jaguary River Watershed, that belongs to the Cantareira System Environmental Protected Area (EPA Cantareira). This work seeks to highlight the different views, perceptions and social consequences that exist due to the diverse uses of the natural resources in the study areas, and to identify proposals for sustainable management that contribute to the implementation of a participatory environmental planning, to the quality of life of its residents and to cooperate in the regulation of this EPA.
