Abstract

This study will evaluate de renal function (RF) and the urinary peroxide and TBARS (oxidative stress markers) of rats treated with sodium bicarbonate (SB) and iodinated radiocontrast (RC), in order to investigate if the bicarbonate solution can prevent the nephrotoxicity of the IR. Wistar rats weighing 250-300g, treated once a day for 05 days with the agents described as follow will be used: Saline (control rats, will receive saline, intraperitoneal (ip), SB+Saline (SB 3mL/Kg,); RC (meglumin ioxitalamate + sodium ioxitalamate, 3ml/Kg, i.p., once a day); SB+RC (SB 3ml/kg, i.p, one hour before and one hour after IR the RC).
