There are few studies about the role of environmental pollutants and premature delivery. Theenvironmental pollutants have been associated with respiratory diseases in childhood, cardiovascular diseases and mortality. The premature delivery occur before 37 weeks of pregnancy and is a risk factor to neonatal morbidity and mortality. Its prevalence is is between 7% and 12%.The objective of this project is to estimate the role of sulfur dioxide, ozone, nitrous oxides and particulate matter in premature delivery in Sorocaba, SP. it will be a ecological study with pollutant records obtained of CETESB and newborn records obtained of SEADE Foundation. The mean values of each poluttant were will be considered at 30, 60 and 90 days before the delivery. The statistical analysis will use the logistic regression model with the pollutant categorized in quartiles. The SPSS v.10.0 computational software will be used. The significance leves will be alpha = 5%.It is expected identify sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxides as risk factor to premature delivery like others studies.
