Abstract

The present research project aims to explore further the still-emerging discussion about the role of feedback within the framework of Visible Learning theory, self-regulation and self-efficacy in effective music teaching and its impact on the training of pre-service music teachers. The term "feedback" is well-known in the educational field, but there are theoretical gaps in its use. Understanding how students receive feedback can help teachers provide better tools for the technical-musical and metacognitive development of the learner. This research internship, supervised by Professor Jennifer Blackwell, involves both the discussion of the data collected in Brazil, since Professor Blackwell is also involved in the main project, and also my participation as an assistant in the course "Studio Music Teaching and Learning" offered by Professor Blackwell at Northwestern University.Through this, we will collect data related to feedback and self-regulation, with the aim of developing evidence-based teaching skills for music performance teaching. Data collection will involve collecting measures of teacher self-efficacy, observations of teaching videos, and interviews with participants about their experiences in learning to teach. The data analysis will consist of behavioral analysis of videos, statistical analysis of measure results, and qualitative coding of interviews. This internship will also facilitate building professional relationships with experts and fellow researchers, creating a network that can support future academic opportunities. The results will contribute to advancing scientific production in the area and improving educational practices in teacher training.
