Abstract

Since the 1970s, pollution of ecosystems by plastic waste and debris has become a concern. Although in the last years, an increasing number of studies have been examining the effects of microplastics (mainly) and nanoplastics on aquatic organisms, most studies have focused on marine/estuarine environments. There is a considerable lack of information on the effects on freshwater organisms, particularly long-term effects. This project, that will be held under the project NanoPlanet, aims to provide highly needed data on the effects of nanoplastics of biopolymers a fish (Danio rerio) species.
