Abstract

The use of educational games is recommended to boost student engagement and learning of content, as well as to encourage teamwork and mutual respect, which is especially beneficial for health professionals. In this sense, the application of escape rooms, an active teaching methodology in which students receive tasks and solve challenges in one or more rooms to achieve a specific objective within a limited time, has already been explored in medical, nursing, pharmacy, and dental courses. However, despite reports about the benefits of applying escape rooms for training and learning in medical emergencies, particularly in dentistry, there are no records of the use of escape rooms in the context of medical emergencies. Therefore, the aim of the present study will be to create an educational escape room game tool on this subject in the academic dental field to enhance dynamic teaching skills and quick decision-making by students. A literature review will be conducted on medical emergencies that most commonly occur in dental offices and the daily lives of health professionals, in order to propose the development of physical and mental puzzles based on the most common clinical emergency situations. Additionally, the escape room will follow a sequential structure and the title of the game will be defined based on the theme of the escape room. In summary, the content that the room proposes to deliver will be organized, fundamental activities and questions that will constitute the puzzles, clues, and challenges will be selected and developed through questionnaires/Google forms, and subsequently, means of assessing learning and final feedback will be selected.
