Abstract Inspired by current problems of fluid-structure interaction in deep-sea water intake risers, currently in vogue for the cooling of oil and gas processing plants in FPSOs, and by divergence and fluttering instabilities of flexible pipes used in the excavation of caverns in salt rock domes, the research project will use an extensive experimental database collected and analyzed within the scope of a doctoral research defended in the same research group (LMO) in 2023. The doctoral project aimed at the experimental investigation of clamped flexible pipes, with internal flow and also under external flow, therefore subject to vortex-induced vibrations (VIV). The study allowed to carry out unprecedented experiments in towing tank and encouraged the development of reduced-order computational models as well as their comparison with high-hierarchy computational models (MEF). This research project, called P1.3 - within the scope of the Thematic Project "Applications of nonlinear dynamics to Engineering" - aims to continue the analysis and improvement of the developed computational models, particularly exploring the representation of large-amplitude responses in supercritical regime, which occur in long flexible hoses under discharge regimens, and which were observed and measured experimentally. The Scientific Initiation scholarship holder will be responsible for assisting in the development of the theoretical-experimental analyses, which will be conducted by the supervisor and by a postdoctoral fellow associated with the project; FAPESP process no. 2024/03127-6. | |
