Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the influence of ultraviolet light source coupled with a high-speed handpiece on the time required and removal effectiveness of high-fluorescence resin composite used to make orthodontic aligner attachments. For that, 40 upper right human premolars and 40 molars will be collected. The teeth will be divided into two groups according to the resin composite used to create the attachments: ALF - Aligner Flow LC (VOCO); GCAC - GC Aligner Connect (GC). Each group will be divided into five subgroups according to the tooth and surface that will receive the attachment: buccal surface of premolar; lingual surface of premolar; mesial portion of the buccal surface of the molar; distal portion of the buccal surface of the molar; lingual surface of the molar. Each subgroup will be divided into two secondary subgroups according to whether UV light will be used or not during removal: with UV, without UV. Ten dentists will be invited to carry out the resin removal in all groups and subgroups. The time taken for each removal will be measured using a stopwatch. To compare the effectiveness of the removal, the baseline and final area occupied by the attachments on each tooth surface will be measured and the percentage of remnant calculated. If the data has a normal distribution, statistical analysis will be carried out using the three-way ANOVA test (resin type x tooth surface x UV) and Tukey's test. A 5% level will be adopted for all analyses.
