Abstract

Introduction: According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), energy is considered a regulatory and integrative source of the body. When the organism is in imbalance there are no adequate physical, chemical and functional responses and therefore a therapeutic response may be null or partial, facilitating the onset of illnesses and/or hindering repair processes. Regulating this flow seeking energy balance can provide tissue self-repair and improved physical well-being.Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the energy profile and energy changes of a young population, before and after extraction of impacted third molars. Methodology: Data were obtained from a larger, randomized, crossover, double-blind clinical study of impacted third molar surgery. In this larger study, there was a division into two groups (RE: group in which there was energy regulation and NRE: group in which there was no energy regulation) before the extraction of the two third molar teeth included in the same position in the same participant. To evaluate the energy flow using the Ryodoraku method, recommended by Nakatani in 1947, four measurements were taken at different treatment times. The first measurement was carried out at the initial moment (T1), the second after removing the acupuncture needles placed for adjustment (T2), the third after 5 minutes of completing the surgical procedures (T3) and the fourth on return after 7 days of intervention (T4). The treatment protocol for energy regulation in the RE was followed as described by Pérez in 2013 and in the NRE with acupoints that do not provide energy regulation. For data analysis, quantitative variables will be analyzed using (ANOVA) with repeated measures, followed by the Bonferroni test for multiple comparisons with adjustments for the significance level p < 0.05. Hypotheses: 1.Redistribution of energy in the acupuncture meridians, after energy regulation in the RE group without a drop in energy; 2. drop in energy in both groups, but with less drop in energy in the RE group after surgery and 3. return to the initial measurement in the NRE and RE groups 7 days after surgery.
