Abstract

Blazars are cosmic sources that present a spectral energy distribution that extends from radio to very high energies in several tens of TeV. The modeling of the spectral energy distribution at high energies of these sources considers two main emission mechanisms, leptonic and lepto-hadronic, which can describe the spectra observed for the two populations of blazars, that is, BL Lacertae (BL Lacs) and Flat-Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs). However, both face difficulties, in particular in reproducing flare phenomena (very energetic phenomena) monitored with good multi-spectral and temporal coverage. The identification of the dominant particle acceleration mechanism and a better description of the location of the emitting zones in the TeV energy range are fundamental to break the degeneracies between the leptonic and lepto-hadronic models. Understanding the mechanisms of particle acceleration to ultra-relativistic energies is fundamental since the production of highly energetic radiation is associated with the acceleration processes of highly energetic cosmic rays, as well as the production of neutrinos. Comparison of multiwavelength observations of blazars with numerical models that calculate radioactive emissions from the source represents the main tool for probing the microphysics inside the source and its physical parameters (such as emission region and particle content). Therefore, the respective research project aims to model the spectral energy distribution of blazar sources detected in gamma rays and investigate the detectability of these sources with the Cherenkov Telescope Array observatory.
