Abstract

Total edentulism is still a very prevalent condition in underprivileged groups, such as the elderly people. The use of complete dentures is the main treatment option for this condition. However, with the advance of digital CAD/CAM technology, the use of 3D printing resins in the manufacture of these rehabilitation devices has proved to be a very effective and up-to-date alternative. Nevertheless, the literature still fails to report studies on the effects of common cleansing protocols on the physical-mechanical properties of these materials. Therefore, this project aims to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of 3 different types of 3D printing resins (BB Base- Printax®; Cosmos Denture - Yller®; Smart Print Bio Denture - Smart Dent®), after cleansing and find out if those resins are a viable option for replacing PMMA, the predominant material used in the manufacture of total prostheses. Isolated methods of cleansing will be used - Brushing with distilled water (EA) or neutral soap (ES) and immersion in distilled water (IA) or Corega Tabs (IC); as well as their association: EA-IA; EA-IC; ES-IA; ES-IC. Ninety circular specimens (Ø20 mm x 3 mm) will be used to analyze Knoop microhardness, surface roughness, color and gloss changes and wettability before and after cleansing; ninety rectangular specimens (65 mm x 10 mm x 3.3 mm) will be used to analyze flexural strength which, since this test is destructive, the analysis will happen after cleansing. The results obtained will be analyzed according to the appropriate statistical model after exploratory data analysis.
