Abstract

This research project is focused on verifying the role of the Sanctuary of Aphrodite located in the city of Palaipaphos in Cyprus, in the construction of the identity of the island's inhabitants during the period of the Roman Empire (Between the 1st century BCE and 4th century CE). Based on information from excavations carried out at the site to date, together with a sample of artifacts, such as coins and cult images, the data will be studied and analyzed, which may indicate in which ways the identity was constructed and manifested in the architectural ensemble of the sanctuary and its representations on other supports, especially coins, and in citations in written sources.
