Abstract

Although anxiety is considered a normal human emotional response to stressful or dangerous situations, it can be considered astressful or dangerous situations, it can be considered a disorder when it manifests itself frequently andmanifested in a frequent and or exaggerated way, compromising the decision making process andimpairing the daily routine of people's lives. According to the World HealthHealth Organization (WHO) 10% of the Brazilian population has an anxiety disorder. Thus, there is a growinggrowing search for understanding the physiological basis of anxiety and the discovery of new drugs thatnew drugs that can contribute to the treatment of this disorder. In this direction, theresearch for drugs derived from medicinal plants stands out, because plant extracts have important phytochemicalplant extracts have important phytochemical compounds that can act in synergism to promoteto promote a biological activity, and often the side effects are milder or even nearlyor even nearly nonexistent compared to synthetic compounds. In addition, the research anduse of medicinal plants in pharmaceutical formulations can promote the valorization andpreservation of the extensive and diverse flora existing in Brazil. An important strategy foreconomic valorization of plant species, which can contribute to their preservationis the use of agro-industrial residues. Within this context, pequi stands out.pequi, a fruit of the Cerrado biome obtained through extraction from the pequizeiro (Caryocarbrasiliense Camb) to obtain its oil, which is widely used in cooking. despite theproven antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of this fruit, due to the presence ofphenolic compounds in its phytochemical composition, the pequi tree runs the risk of being extinctin a few years. Thus, aiming at the preservation of the pequi tree and considering that in the literaturethere are already studies demonstrating the anxiolytic and sedative activity of phenolic compounds, this project aims to evaluate the anxiolytic activity of the pequi pulp residue extract, obtained after cold pressing to remove its oil. For this, initially, throughphytochemical and antioxidant methods, the best methodology for extractingof phenolic compounds. From this definition, the cytotoxicity of the extract will be evaluatedby the MTT method and the anxiolytic and locomotor activities will be determined by theelevated plus maze and open field methods, respectively. Keywords: Pequi, anxiety, herbal medicine.
