Abstract

Graphene and its derivatives have become an important sub-area of Materials Science and Engineering since the discovery of Dirac fermions in its electronic structure in 2004. The presence of these relativistic conducting entities gives graphene potential for applications in various areas due to its excellent physical properties, such as (i) high electronic mobility, (ii) high surface area, (iii) high thermal and electrical conductivity, and (iv) high mechanical strength. In recent years, a graphene production technique known as "laser-induced graphene" (LIG) has shown great potential for manufacturing high-quality graphene. This technique uses commercial laser engraving or cutting systems, making it inexpensive and highly scalable. Laser-induced graphene can be understood as a three-dimensional, porous structure formed by two-dimensional graphene sheets, characterized mainly by the presence of sp2 carbons and high-mobility À electrons in its structure. In this context, this scientific initiation proposal aims to study the two main parameters for inducing graphene with a laser: processing speed and laser power. It also aims to characterize its physical properties accordingly.
