Abstract

In order to contribute to the "Sound Archives of Theatre" research project, this research aims to focus on "Axis 1: Lexicon and Concepts", mapping the terms used to designate the field of theater sound, taking Brazilian academia and archives as its focus. This project is an offshoot of the TT1 grant "Survey of academic production on sound aspects of theater in Brazil (except voice)", which listed, among other data, which keywords are used in productions on the subject in academic journals. The research, a priori, was going to expand to repositories of theses and dissertations, but we hit an impasse: the databases search for keywords, and already in the survey of journals we could see that there is no consensus among the terms being used - many are redundant, or extremely specific. In other words, the vocabulary is nebulous both in the field of practice - see Raul Teixeira's master's dissertation (2021), which surveyed approximately 70 different terms used in São Paulo show programs to address the functions performed - and in the field of theory. Thus, this project will use the exercise of building a controlled vocabulary and metalexicography in an attempt to broadly map the lexicon. In parallel, the terms used in the controlled vocabularies of archival institutions in São Paulo that deal with cultural objects and may have sound archives will be investigated, and based on the terms that are collected, the digital thesis repositories will be mapped.
