Abstract

The architectural decoration of the Severan age represents a pivotal moment in the development of Roman architecture. After the neoclassicism of Hadrian, a strong decorativism of Flavian matrix is affirmed in which the hierarchy between the moldings is no longer respected. This new language is used in the official architecture built with imperial funds both in Rome and in the main cities of the empire.
