Abstract

Epilepsy is a cerebral condition that generates a constant predisposition of epileptic seizures resulting from synchronous, anomalous, and excessive electrical discharges. Malformations of Cortical Development (MCD), an important etiology of Epilepsy, comprises a vast and heterogeneous group of disturbances in the cerebral cortex formation, with a genetic, infectious, vascular, or metabolic cause. We still do not understand the correlation between seizure frequency and pharmacological treatment response in different types of MCD. Therefore, this study intends to investigate the response to different Antiepileptic Drugs (AED), onset date of the seizures and types of seizures that are more frequent in patients with Epilepsy secondary to different types of MCD. We also intend to evaluate the relative frequency of patients with Epilepsy secondary to MCD that were submitted to surgery and the result of post-operatory seizure control. The diagnosis of MCD will be based on the assessment of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging database from the neuroimaging laboratory of FCM UNICAMP.
