Abstract

Artificial spin networks of single atoms can be efficiently formed using metal-organic coordination nanostructures, such as an atomic-molecular LEGO. In this thesis project, associated with the FAPESP-SNSF Thematic Project, we will experimentally study the formation of organometallic magnetic networks (MONs) with different geometries and sizes from different molecular precursors and coordinated by magnetic atoms (e.g., Fe, Co, Ni) on metallic and non-metallic monocrystalline surfaces. The study will initially be explored in the surface physics system with RT-STM and XPS to select the best model systems. Later, we will deepen the understanding of the effect of the electronic and magnetic structure using the new LT-SPM/TERS and in a complementary way with X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements on Sirius (Co-orientation by Dr. Julio C. Cezar) and PSI/SLS ( Prof. Thomas A. Jung). (AU)
