Abstract Betalains are natural, water-soluble antioxidants that are used as coloring additives in foods and cosmetics, herbal agents, and mediators of redox transformations. The objective of this doctoral project is to produce and evaluate the biocompatibility of colored xerogels, cryogels, and aerogels made of silica-betalain. The betalains will be obtained through a green chemoenzymatic method and the materials produced will be characterized from a morphological, photophysical, and photochemical standpoint, aiming for future application as coloring additives. This project is linked to the FAPESP-FAPERGS (2019/15412-9) and FAPESP-SPRINT (2019/08450-1) projects in collaboration with Profs. Fabiano Rodembusch (UFRGS) and Jacinto Sá (uUppsala), respectively, and will also have the collaboration of Prof. Pedro Vidinha (IQUSP) for experiments with supercritical carbon dioxide. (AU) | |
