Abstract

In this study, we investigate the potential of a novel blend comprising bamboo fiber, geopolymer, and rice husk for the production of a sustainable alternative to traditional cement in construction materials. Employing the extrusion technique, we incorporate bamboo fiber, known for its superior strength and flexibility, as a reinforcement material. Additionally, the inclusion of bamboo husks will be a vehicle to improve the mechanical or thermal properties of the geopolymer matrix. Geopolymers, synthesized from aluminosilicate materials, serve as a low-carbon footprint substitutes for Portland cement materials. Our approach involves the use of rice husk, an abundant agricultural by-product rich in silica, as a precursor for synthesizing geopolymers. Rice Husk Ash (RHA) blends are used as a sustainable precursor, contributing to the development of a lightweight geopolymer binder. The synergistic combination of these components yields a material with promising mechanical properties, cost-effectiveness, and reduced environmental impact. By utilizing the extrusion technique, our research not only advances sustainable practices in the construction industry but also promotes the utilization of renewable and waste materials for a more eco-friendly future.
